It’s #WorldWildlifeDay and I wanted to mark the occasion by sharing this new photograph from a few weeks ago.
White rhinos have been a major success story for conservation, having been brought back from the edge of extinction by global efforts, with populations rising to around 20,000 individuals.
Unfortunately unprecedented levels of poaching in recent years has resulted in record numbers of white rhino being slaughtered for their ivory.
The above facts are both alarming and reassuring — a sign that we must work harder, but also proof that we can turn these declines around.
