The Highland
2025
I almost always focus on the eyes of my subject, but I think when it come’s to the Highland Cow, they are known for their shaggy crown of coarse hair and their horns that curve like crescent moons more than their eyes – to comb his fringe in an effort to reveal his eyes would not only be dangerous, it would remove that character that so many have come to love about the Highland Cow’s face.Â
They are creatures that do not seek your attention, but hold it effortlessly. Each coarse strand of fur tells a story of bitter winters survived and quiet summers grazed under endless skies. There is no polish here, no pretence—only muscle, fur, horn, and instinct.
Behind him, the trees blur in soft focus, distant and unimposing, while the beast, framed by a sky mottled with drifting clouds, commands every inch of my frame with quiet authority.Â
