I’ll Think About It

Price range: £250.00 through £1,150.00

2024

This photograph very much encompasses my signature style — I like to make the eyes front and centre of my work, and I often use strong, dark backgrounds to focus the eye.

I am an emotional person, and I think that shows in my work — photography has become my outlet for the challenges I face living with autism.

I like that the lemur in the background is looking at the lemur in the foreground, and he is then looking into the distance – it leaves questions unanswered – what are they contemplating? What’s in the distance?

Land Of The Lemurs (Black & White)

Price range: £250.00 through £1,150.00

2024

‘Land Of Lemurs’ is one of my favourite photographs that I’ve taken in 2024 thus far. It is a composition I have long dreamed of, I sketched out a similar composition three years ago and have been trying to capture it ever since.

When I found these three hanging out, I knew I probably had my chance if I waited long enough. The left and the right lemurs were the easy part, and the beautiful trees in the distance made for the perfect backdrop, I just had to wait a while for the central individual to move forward so as to create the distance I wanted between him and the two others.

Lemurs are very sociable and inquisitive, so he was very obliging when it came to looking into the camera — he means business, this is the land of lemurs.

My Crown

Price range: £250.00 through £1,150.00

2024

Every time I see an African crowned crane I am immediately transported back to my childhood — growing up with autism meant I was drawn to anything that was unusual — weather that be the bright pink of the flamingo, or the feathered crown of these birds. Every time I saw them I would announce “It’s the funny haircut birds”.

I have long desired to capture a strong portrait of these most unusual birds, as an ode to the excitement they gave me as a child.

The light hit perfectly on this day, illuminating that fascinating crown, they do indeed have a funny haircut!

Downpour

Price range: £250.00 through £1,150.00

2024

This photograph was inspired by a couple of shoots I did for the wild horse project — the rain brought the herd to life, and added another dramatic layer to the resulting photographs.

When I completed the project and returned to exotic species, I was excited to shoot in the rain again, and rhino seemed like a good subject — their rugged, pre-historic appearance suits the drama of a downpour.

I was aware of a heavy deluge that was due to hit us in the afternoon, and so I headed out to the field with a feeling of excitement. The rain came, along with some dramatic light — I was the only one crazy enough to be out in the rain other than the rhino, but it paid off.

Titans

Price range: £250.00 through £1,150.00

2024

To work with elephants is always one of the most surreal experiences – they always make me stop in my tracks, in total awe of their enormity, but also of their remarkable gentleness. I love watching them plod along, going about their daily business and interacting with their family. They deserve our utmost respect, after all, they were here long before us humans.

It is always a challenge to photograph them, indeed my last elephant release was back in 2022. I have tried a couple of times since, and have had this idea sketched out for a while – it just takes time with these beasts, there is no rushing an elephant, but I am not complaining – there are worse places to be than in the distant company of an elephant living his life. I came close once in 2023, but his head didn’t quite lift high enough, meaning the tusks blocked his friend’s face, so I tried again, and again.

It all came together, finally, in October 2024. I thought ‘Titans’ was the perfect title – they possess strength, intellect and importance in abundance.

On The Approach

Price range: £250.00 through £1,150.00

2024

The zebra is one of the most nervy and skittish species I have photographed, it takes a massive amount of time to gain their trust, and to get into a situation where there is a chance of getting the photograph I am looking for. But it is worth it, their stripes are so visually arresting.

I crouched down so that I was below their eye level, automatically a much less intimidating sight to a zebra than a six foot four inch man, and waited until her inquisitive side finally overtook her nervy nature. I wanted a head-on shot, something completely different to anything I have done before with a zebra – there isn’t, in my opinion, much in the animal kingdom that can claim to be as beautiful as the face of these iconic creatures.

To shoot these creatures head-on is perhaps the biggest challenge, if you are shooting side-on in search of an abstract composition you have a chance of being able to position yourself out of sight, but to capture the image I wanted, I knew I had to be in her eye-line. It was all about being calm, patient and slow in any movements.

Just look at those big, floppy ears, and that incredibly intricate facial pattern. I will never forget this moment – it was the first time myself and a zebra made eye contact, and probably the last!

Higher Ground

Price range: £250.00 through £1,150.00

2024

The snow leopard is not only one of the rarest cats on our planet, but, in my humble opinion, one of the most beautiful. It is always a highlight when I am fortunate enough to work with them, and every time I am blessed with an opportunity I try to up my game a little further – I know I am incredibly lucky.

They love to spend time high up on rocky outcrops and ledges, either surveying their kingdom, or as is more often the case, sleeping. It has been a goal for sometime to capture a strong photograph of a snow leopard on it’s rocky outcrop and everything finally came together on a recent shoot – the cloudy sky behind him offered the chance to show him off in all his majesty without any distractions.

Today, on International Snow Leopard Day, this seemed like the perfect photograph to release as we raise awareness, and celebrate those who work to preserve these beautiful creatures and their rocky habitat.
